Off-Season Hoops was proud and thrilled to once again partner with the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence for a third summer. This past July, we offered a four day academic and basketball clinic for over forty girls from the Club. In the morning, the girls particpated in academic classes with topics on life lessons including Non Verbal Communication and Body Language, Leadership, Social Media, Self Esteem, Babysitting Responsibilites with First Aid, and disussions about professional opportunites for women in various sports fields. In the afternoon, there was a full agenda of basketball activities including skill development stations, games, and fun activities with prizes. The girls also had the opportunity to hear guest speakers talk about their careers and how they've overcome challenges to be successful. This year's speakers included Kash Cannon (Boston Celtics Director Community Programming), Jennifer Penate (Channel 5 News), Coach Steve Harney and Coach Ariel Gaston (Harvard University Women's BBall Staff), Dr. Joseph Cooper (UMass Boston Sports Leadership), Siobhan Sherbovich (Boston Bruins Director of Corporate Partnerships), Coach Lucia Robinson-Griggs (MIT Women's BBall Coach), and Shayla Burgos (Greater Lawrence High School Girl's BBall Coach) .
